Ghoul Plague

Mysterious illness that appears two months after the ‘Event’ and named based on the infected habit of attacking and consuming the flesh of their victims. In the month since it’s first appearance, no pathogen was identified to explain the origin of the disease. Facts that have been determined, those attacked and killed by an infected will rise as an infected within hours of death. While two forms of the infected have been identified, both have several aspect in relation to one another, both cam only be truly stopped by destroying the brain, the body will continue to function regardless of most other damage done to the body. Both groups seem to have lost all higher level brain functions, and seem to move to attack and kill on an instinctual basis, no evidence of tool use, has been identified. They are also no stronger than the average uninfected human.

While they have many similarities, the two groups do have a few differences. The first and largest group of the infected are slow, never running and generally walking much slower than the average human, though unlike the uninfected the infected never seem to tire and keep coming as long as they can sense their prey. The second smaller group is very fast, running at speeds that can out pace the average human, and tend to have better ability to perceive their prey and while no more intelligent than it’s slower brethren, they can, much like prey animals sense the weakest or most dangerous in it’s prey.

The individual infected might not be exceptionally dangerous, their true danger is in their pack mentality, as once a single infected catches wind of prey, they begin to moan, which attracts more infected, which brings more moaning and more infected. While a single or small group might be manageable, if not dealt with quickly, a group can find themselves greatly outnumbered.
